Why in the world did Girlfriends end?

When Girlfriends came to an end after 8 years in February 2008, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Joan Carol Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Girlfriends reunion disappoint people?

Girlfriends aired from 2000-2008 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Ross said she's not sure if Girlfriends would work today. “I don't want to see old Joan Carol Clayton,” she told a journalist (Ross turned 51 in October). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” she added.

Still hoping for a Girlfriends movie?

In a recent interview, Tracee Ellis Ross said she can't imagine a Girlfriends reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

What about a Girlfriends reboot?

Recasting Girlfriends for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
