Why in the world did Weird Science end?

When Weird Science came to an end after 5 years in July 1998, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Gary Wallace (John Mallory Asher). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Weird Science reunion disappoint people?

Weird Science aired from 1994-1998 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Asher said he's not sure if Weird Science would work today. “I don't want to see old Gary Wallace,” he told a journalist (Asher turned 53 in January). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a Weird Science movie?

In a recent interview, John Mallory Asher said he can't imagine a Weird Science reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”
