It has been exactly 15 long years since Bernie Mac died in Chicago on August 9, 2008 at the age of 50. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Mac, a cultural icon

Born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough in Chicago on October 5, 1957, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Mac was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 2001 he touched the hearts of millions as Frank Catton in ‘Ocean's Eleven’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
