It has been exactly 7 long years since John Hurt died in Cromer on January 25, 2017 at the age of 77. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Hurt, a cultural icon

Born John Vincent Hurt in Shirebrook on January 22, 1940, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in English history. Hurt was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1979 he touched the hearts of millions as Kane in ‘Alien’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
