It has been exactly 9 long years since Kenny Wheeler died in London on September 18, 2014 at the age of 84. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed musicians of his generation.
Today, fans of Kenny Wheeler (Deer Wan, Gnu High, ...) along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic man he was.
Wheeler, a cultural icon
Born Kenneth Vincent John Wheeler in Toronto on January 14, 1930, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in Canadian history. Wheeler was not just a great musician, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 1978 he touched the hearts of millions with ‘Deer Wan’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique musical heritage.
It's been 9 years since the tragic loss of Kenny Wheeler and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Kenny Wheeler is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
