It has been exactly 11 long years since Ravi Shankar died in San Diego on December 11, 2012 at the age of 92. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed musicians of his generation.

Today, fans of Ravi Shankar along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic man he was.

Shankar, a cultural icon

Born in Varanasi on April 7, 1920, Ravi Shankar's career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in Indian history. Shankar was not just a great musician, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique musical heritage.

It's been 11 years since the tragic loss of Ravi Shankar and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Ravi Shankar is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
