Remembering Sidney Poitier, 2 Years Later

It has been exactly 2 long years since Sidney Poitier died in Los Angeles on January 6, 2022 at the age of 94. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Today, fans of Sidney Poitier (In the Heat of the Night, Lilies of the Field, ...) along with the rest of the film industry have been remembering the iconic man he was.

Poitier, a cultural icon

Born in Miami on February 20, 1927, Sidney Poitier's career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Poitier was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1963 he touched the hearts of millions as Homer Smith in ‘Lilies of the Field’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.

It's been 2 years since the tragic loss of Sidney Poitier and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Sidney Poitier is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
