‘12 Monkeys’ Reunion 2027 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a 12 Monkeys reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Saturday (April 4) as reports claimed that Syfy confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Why in the world did 12 Monkeys end?

When 12 Monkeys came to an end after 4 years in July 2018, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Athan Cole (James Callis), James Cole (Aaron Stanford), Dr. Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) and José Ramse (Kirk Acevedo). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a 12 Monkeys reunion disappoint people?

12 Monkeys aired from 2015-2018 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Stanford said he's not sure if 12 Monkeys would work today. “I don't want to see old James Cole,” he told a journalist (Stanford turned 49 in December). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a 12 Monkeys movie?

In a recent interview, Kirk Acevedo said he can't imagine a 12 Monkeys reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Emily Hampshire (who played Jennifer Goines) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a 12 Monkeys movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a 12 Monkeys film, Aaron Stanford stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a 12 Monkeys reboot?

Recasting 12 Monkeys for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
