‘Doc Martin’ Reunion 2027 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a Doc Martin reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Tuesday (March 24) as reports claimed that ITV confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Why in the world did Doc Martin end?

When Doc Martin came to an end after 19 years in November 2022, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Louisa Ellingham (Caroline Catz) and Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Doc Martin reunion disappoint people?

Doc Martin aired from 2004-2022 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Clunes said he's not sure if Doc Martin would work today. “I don't want to see old Martin Ellingham,” he told a journalist (Clunes turned 64 in November). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a Doc Martin movie?

In a recent interview, Lucy Punch (who played Elaine Denham in 2004) said she can't imagine a Doc Martin reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Katherine Parkinson (who played Pauline Lamb between 2005 and 2009) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Doc Martin movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Doc Martin film, Selina Cadell stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Doc Martin reboot?

Recasting Doc Martin for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
