Can you believe it's been 15 years since Downton Abbey first aired?! (15 years, 6 months, 11 days to be exact.)

Why in the world did Downton Abbey end?

When Downton Abbey came to an end after 6 years in December 2015, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern), Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Lady Sybil Cora Branson (Jessica Brown Findlay) and Lady Mary Josephine Crawley (Michelle Dockery). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Downton Abbey reunion disappoint people?

Downton Abbey aired from 2010-2015 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Dockery said she's not sure if Downton Abbey would work today. “I don't want to see old Lady Mary Josephine Crawley,” she told a journalist (Dockery turned 44 in December). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” she added.

Still hoping for a Downton Abbey movie?

In a recent interview, Lily James (who played Lady Rose MacClare between 2012 and 2014) said she can't imagine a Downton Abbey reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Dan Stevens (who played Matthew Crawley between 2011 and 2013) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Downton Abbey movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Downton Abbey film, Rose Leslie stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Downton Abbey reboot?

Recasting Downton Abbey for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
