Can you believe it's been 31 years since ER first aired?! (31 years, 3 months, 14 days to be exact.)
Why in the world did ER end?
When ER came to an end after 15 years in April 2009, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Doctor John Carter (Noah Wyle), Doctor Doug Ross (George Clooney) and Doctor Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.
Would an ER reunion disappoint people?
ER aired from 1994-2009 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Wyle said he's not sure if ER would work today. “I don't want to see old Doctor John Carter,” he told a journalist (Wyle turned 54 in June). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.
Still hoping for an ER movie?
In a recent interview, Julie Bowen (who played Roxanne Please between 1998 and 1999) said she can't imagine an ER reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”
Co-star Maura Tierney (who played Abby Lockhart between 1999 and 2009) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did an ER movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”
On the subject of whether there could be an ER film, Jorja Fox stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”
What about an ER reboot?
Recasting ER for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
Be it in the form of an ER reunion, an ER movie, or an ER reboot, if you had to start filming today, who would you cast in what role?
