Can you believe it's been 21 years since Joan of Arcadia first aired?! (21 years, 2 months, 22 days to be exact.)
Why in the world did Joan of Arcadia end?
When Joan of Arcadia came to an end after 2 years in April 2005, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Joan Girardi (Amber Tamblyn) and Will Girardi (Joe Mantegna). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.
Would a Joan of Arcadia reunion disappoint people?
Joan of Arcadia aired from 2003-2005 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Mantegna said he's not sure if Joan of Arcadia would work today. “I don't want to see old Will Girardi,” he told a journalist (Mantegna turned 77 in November). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.
Still hoping for a Joan of Arcadia movie?
In a recent interview, Jason Ritter (who played Kevin Girardi) said he can't imagine a Joan of Arcadia reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”
Co-star Constance Zimmer (who played Sister Lilly Watters between 2004 and 2005) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Joan of Arcadia movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”
On the subject of whether there could be a Joan of Arcadia film, Joe Mantegna stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”
What about a Joan of Arcadia reboot?
Recasting Joan of Arcadia for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
Be it in the form of a Joan of Arcadia reunion, a Joan of Arcadia movie, or a Joan of Arcadia reboot, if you had to start filming today, who would you cast in what role?
