‘Outlander’ Reunion 2027 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a Outlander reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Thursday (May 14) as reports claimed that Starz confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Can you believe it's been 11 years since Outlander first aired?! (11 years, 9 months, 6 days to be exact.)

Why in the world did Outlander end?

When Outlander came to an end after 9 years in May 2023, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would an Outlander reunion disappoint people?

Outlander aired from 2014-2023 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Heughan said he's not sure if Outlander would work today. “I don't want to see old Jamie Fraser,” he told a journalist (Heughan turned 46 in April). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for an Outlander movie?

In a recent interview, Gary Lewis (who played Colum MacKenzie until 2016) said he can't imagine an Outlander reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Caitriona Balfe has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did an Outlander movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be an Outlander film, Frances de la Tour stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about an Outlander reboot?

Recasting Outlander for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
