‘Squid Game’ Reunion 2027 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a Squid Game reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Friday (March 20) as reports claimed that producers confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Why in the world did Squid Game end?

When Squid Game came to an end after 4 years in June 2025, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon), Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo), Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) and Lee Myung-gi (Yim Si-wan). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Squid Game reunion disappoint people?

Squid Game aired from 2021-2025 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Yim said he's not sure if Squid Game would work today. “I don't want to see old Lee Myung-gi,” he told a journalist (Yim turned 37 in December). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a Squid Game movie?

In a recent interview, Park Hae-soo said he can't imagine a Squid Game reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star HoYeon (who played Kang Sae-byeok) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Squid Game movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Squid Game film, Wi Ha-joon stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Squid Game reboot?

Recasting Squid Game for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
