Can you believe it's been 20 years since Battlestar Galactica first aired?! (20 years, 2 months, 4 days to be exact.)
Why in the world did Battlestar Galactica end?
When Battlestar Galactica came to an end after 5 years in March 2009, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos), Number Eight (Grace Park), Doctor Gaius Baltar (James Callis), Major Lee "Apollo" Adama (Jamie Bamber), Captain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Number Six (Tricia Helfer). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.
Would a Battlestar Galactica reunion disappoint people?
Battlestar Galactica aired from 2004-2009 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But McDonnell said she's not sure if Battlestar Galactica would work today. “I don't want to see old President Laura Roslin,” she told a journalist (McDonnell turned 72 in April). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” she added.
Still hoping for a Battlestar Galactica movie?
In a recent interview, Sam Witwer (who played Crashdown between 2004 and 2005) said he can't imagine a Battlestar Galactica reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”
Co-star Tricia Helfer has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Battlestar Galactica movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”
On the subject of whether there could be a Battlestar Galactica film, Grace Park stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”
What about a Battlestar Galactica reboot?
Recasting Battlestar Galactica for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
