‘Rescue Me’ Reunion 2025 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a Rescue Me reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Thursday (March 28) as reports claimed that FX confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2025.

Can you believe it's been 19 years since Rescue Me first aired?! (19 years, 8 months, 8 days to be exact.)

Why in the world did Rescue Me end?

When Rescue Me came to an end after 8 years in September 2011, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Janet Gavin (Andrea Roth), Sheila Keefe (Callie Thorne), Franco Rivera (Daniel Sunjata), Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) and Sean Leslie Garrity (Steven Pasquale). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Rescue Me reunion disappoint people?

Rescue Me aired from 2004-2011 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Leary said he's not sure if Rescue Me would work today. “I don't want to see old Tommy Gavin,” he told a journalist (Leary turned 66 in August). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a Rescue Me movie?

In a recent interview, Callie Thorne said she can't imagine a Rescue Me reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Maura Tierney (who played Kelly McPhee since 2009) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Rescue Me movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Rescue Me film, Daniel Sunjata stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Rescue Me reboot?

Recasting Rescue Me for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
