‘The Crown’ Reunion 2027 — Is It Happening?

Rumors of a the Crown reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Friday (April 3) as reports claimed that Netflix confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Can you believe it's been 9 years since the Crown first aired?! (9 years, 5 months, to be exact.)

Why in the world did the Crown end?

When the Crown came to an end after 8 years in December 2023, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy), Philip Mountbatten (Matt Smith) and Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Crown reunion disappoint people?

The Crown aired from 2016-2023 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Kirby said she's not sure if the Crown would work today. “I don't want to see old Princess Margaret,” she told a journalist (Kirby turned 37 in April). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” she added.

Still hoping for a Crown movie?

In a recent interview, Matthew Goode (who played Antony Armstrong-Jones since 2017) said he can't imagine a Crown reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Michael C. Hall (who played John F. Kennedy since 2017) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Crown movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Crown film, Stephen Dillane stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Crown reboot?

Recasting the Crown for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
