Rumors of a Desparate Parents reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Wednesday (April 1) as reports claimed that France 2 confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2027.

Why in the world did Desparate Parents end?

When Desparate Parents came to an end after 10 years in February 2017, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Denis Bouley (Bruno Salomone) and Valérie Bouley (Isabelle Gélinas). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Desparate Parents without Denis Bouley?

After the tragic passing of Bruno Salomone in 2026 how are the writers going to handle the absence of Denis Bouley. It seems pretty hard to imagine. “The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have that character pass,” a source close to the production says.

Would a Desparate Parents reunion disappoint people?

Desparate Parents aired from 2007-2017 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Gélinas said she's not sure if Desparate Parents would work today. “I don't want to see old Valérie Bouley,” she told a journalist (Gélinas turned 62 in October). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” she added.

Still hoping for a Desparate Parents movie?

In a recent interview, Isabelle Gélinas said she can't imagine a Desparate Parents reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star André Manoukian (who played Thierry Kalamian) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Desparate Parents movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Desparate Parents film, Isabelle Nanty stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Desparate Parents reboot?

Recasting Desparate Parents for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.
