It has been exactly 23 long years since The Princess of Pop Aaliyah died in Marsh Harbour on August 25, 2001 at the age of 22. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed singers of her generation.
Today, fans of Aaliyah (Try Again, ...) along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic woman she was.
Aaliyah, a cultural icon
Born Aaliyah Dana Haughton in New York on January 16, 1979, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Aaliyah was not just a great singer, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 2000 she touched the hearts of millions with ‘Try Again’. Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique musical heritage.
It's been 23 years since the tragic loss of Aaliyah and her personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Aaliyah is no longer physically here, her presence is more powerful than ever. She left a void that has yet to be filled.
