Are celebrities more likely to divorce or break up? Earlier this week news reports surfaced that Angela Merkel, 71, and her partner had split up. Is the former German Chancellor really single again?

Merkel spotted alone
A fan spotted Angela Merkel walking alone, probably coming back from picking up her mail at the end of her several mile long driveway, on the afternoon of June 26, 2026. Was she all alone? “Definitely yes,” says the fan, adding that “She was wearing a large sweater and looked really cute!”
Is Angela back on the market?
A rep for Angela Merkel was not immediately available for comment.
Truth or rumor, when news that the politician was splitting hit the internet Saturday (June 27), Twitter immediately exploded with pithy commentary. It seems everyone had an opinion on the matter:
