Are celebrities more likely to divorce or break up? Earlier this week news reports surfaced that Ava DuVernay, 53, and her partner had split up. Is the director best known for the movie Selma really single again?

DuVernay spotted alone

A fan spotted Ava DuVernay walking alone, probably coming back from picking up her mail at the end of her several mile long driveway, on the afternoon of May 24, 2026. Was she all alone? “Definitely yes,” says the fan, adding that “She was wearing a large sweater and looked really cute!”

Is Ava back on the market?

A rep for Ava DuVernay was not immediately available for comment.

Truth or rumor, when news that the director was splitting hit the internet Monday (May 25), Twitter immediately exploded with pithy commentary. It seems everyone had an opinion on the matter:
