It has been exactly one year since Claudia Cardinale died in Nemours on September 23, 2025 at the age of 87. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation.

Cardinale, a cultural icon

Born Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale in Tunis on April 15, 1938, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in Italian history. Cardinale was not just a great actress, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1989 she touched the hearts of millions as Hélène in ‘Hiver 54, l'abbé Pierre’. Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique heritage.
