It has been exactly 60 long years since Édith Piaf died in Grasse on October 10, 1963 at the age of 47. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed singers of her generation.

Piaf, a cultural icon

Born Edith Piaf in Paris on December 19, 1915, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in French history. Piaf was not just a great singer, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1947 she touched the hearts of millions with ‘La Vie en rose’. Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique musical heritage.
