Remembering Gérard Philipe on the 65th Anniversary of his death

It has been exactly 65 long years since Gérard Philipe died in Paris on December 25, 1959 at the age of 37. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Today, fans of Gérard Philipe (Fan-Fan the Tulip, Devil in the Flesh, ...) along with the rest of the film industry have been remembering the iconic man he was.

Philipe, a cultural icon

Born Gérard Philip in Cannes on December 4, 1922, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in French history. Philipe was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1952 he touched the hearts of millions as Fanfan la Tulipe in ‘Fan-Fan the Tulip’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.

It's been 65 years since the tragic loss of Gérard Philipe and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Gérard Philipe is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
