Loretta Swit died in New York on May 30, 2025 at the age of 87. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation.

Swit, a cultural icon
Born Loretta Jane Swit in Passaic on November 4, 1937, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Swit was not just a great actress, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 1972 she touched the hearts of millions as Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in ‘M*A*S*H’. Her legacy will continue to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique heritage.
Although Loretta Swit is no longer physically here, her presence is more powerful than ever. She left a void that has yet to be filled.
