It has been exactly 5 long years since Maurane died in Schaerbeek on May 7, 2018 at the age of 57. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed singers of her generation.

Today, fans of Maurane (Si aujourd'hui, Sur un prélude de Bach, La Nouvelle Star, ...) along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic woman she was.

Maurane, a cultural icon

Born Claudine Luypaerts in Ixelles on November 12, 1960, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in Belgian history. Maurane was not just a great singer, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1992 she touched the hearts of millions with ‘Sur un prélude de Bach’. Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique musical heritage.

It's been 5 years since the tragic loss of Maurane and her personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Maurane is no longer physically here, her presence is more powerful than ever. She left a void that has yet to be filled.
