It has been exactly 37 long years since Velvet Underground singer Nico died in Ibiza on July 18, 1988 at the age of 49. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed singers of her generation.
Today, fans of Nico along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic woman she was.
Nico, a cultural icon
Born Christa Päffgen in Cologne on October 16, 1938, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in German history. Nico was not just a great singer, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique musical heritage.
It's been 37 years since the tragic loss of Nico and her personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Nico is no longer physically here, her presence is more powerful than ever. She left a void that has yet to be filled.
