It has been exactly 39 long years since Orson Welles died in Los Angeles on October 10, 1985 at the age of 70. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Born George Orson Welles in Kenosha on May 6, 1915, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Welles was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
