Is the 87-year-old monarch officially back on the market?

Are celebrities more likely to divorce or break up? Earlier this week news reports surfaced that Queen Sofía of Spain, 87, and her partner had split up. Is the Spanish monarch really single again?

Queen Sofía of Spain spotted alone

A fan spotted Queen Sofía of Spain walking alone, probably coming back from picking up her mail at the end of her several mile long driveway, on the afternoon of December 3, 2025. Was she all alone? “Definitely yes,” says the fan, adding that “She was wearing a large sweater and looked really cute!”

Is Sofía back on the market?

A rep for Queen Sofía of Spain was not immediately available for comment.

Truth or rumor, when news that the monarch was splitting hit the internet Thursday (December 4), Twitter immediately exploded with pithy commentary. It seems everyone had an opinion on the matter:
