Is the 45-year-old singer officially back on the market?

Are celebrities more likely to divorce or break up? Earlier this week news reports surfaced that Vanessa Carlton, 45, and her partner had split up. Is the singer best known for her hit song A Thousand Miles really single again?

Carlton spotted alone

A fan spotted Vanessa Carlton walking alone, probably coming back from picking up her mail at the end of her several mile long driveway, on the afternoon of May 15, 2026. Was she all alone? “Definitely yes,” says the fan, adding that “She was wearing a large sweater and looked really cute!”

Is Vanessa back on the market?

A rep for Vanessa Carlton was not immediately available for comment.

Truth or rumor, when news that the singer - known for having been romantically involved with John Mayer - was splitting hit the internet Saturday (May 16), Twitter immediately exploded with pithy commentary. It seems everyone had an opinion on the matter:
