It has been exactly 24 long years since Alec Guinness died in Midhurst on August 5, 2000 at the age of 86. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Guinness, a cultural icon
Born in London on April 2, 1914, Alec Guinness' career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in English history. Guinness was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 1965 he touched the hearts of millions as General Yevgraf Zhivago in ‘Doctor Zhivago’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
It's been 24 years since the tragic loss of Alec Guinness and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Alec Guinness is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
