It has been exactly 23 long years since The Singing Madman Charles Trenet died in Créteil on February 19, 2001 at the age of 87. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed poets of his generation.

Trenet, a cultural icon
Born Louis Charles Auguste Claude Trenet in Narbonne on May 18, 1913, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in French history. Trenet was not just a great poet, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 1947 he touched the hearts of millions with ‘Douce France’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
