It has been exactly 28 long years since Gene Kelly died in Beverly Hills on February 2, 1996 at the age of 83. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Kelly, a cultural icon
Born Eugene Curran Kelly in Pittsburgh on August 23, 1912, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Kelly was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
In 1952 he touched the hearts of millions as Don Lockwood in ‘Singin' in the Rain’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
