It has been exactly 12 long years since Jenni Rivera died in Iturbide on December 9, 2012 at the age of 43. As a number of online tributes attest, she was one of the most acclaimed singers of her generation.

Rivera, a cultural icon

Born Dolores Janney Rivera in Long Beach on July 2, 1969, her career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Rivera was not just a great singer, she was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 2007 she touched the hearts of millions with ‘Paloma Negra’. Her legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering her unique musical heritage.
