It has been exactly 19 long years since Clash lead singer Joe Strummer died in Broomfield on December 22, 2002 at the age of 50. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed musicians of his generation.

Today, fans of Joe Strummer along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic man he was.

Strummer, a cultural icon

Born John Graham Mellor in Ankara on August 21, 1952, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in British history. Strummer was not just a great musician, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
