It has been exactly 27 long years since Marcello Mastroianni died in Paris on December 19, 1996 at the age of 72. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Born Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastroianni in Fontana Liri on September 28, 1924, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in Italian history. Mastroianni was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1960 he touched the hearts of millions as Marcello Rubini in ‘La Dolce Vita’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
