It has been exactly 13 long years since Maurice Garrel died in Paris on June 4, 2011 at the age of 88. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Garrel, a cultural icon

Born in Saint-Gervais on February 24, 1923, Maurice Garrel's career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in French history. Garrel was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 2004 he touched the hearts of millions as Louis Jennsens in ‘Kings and Queen’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
