Remembering Ornette Coleman on the 6th Anniversary of his death

It has been exactly 6 long years since Ornette Coleman died in New York on June 11, 2015 at the age of 85. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed musicians of his generation.

Coleman, a cultural icon

Born Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman in Fort Worth on March 9, 1930, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Coleman was not just a great musician, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1959 he touched the hearts of millions with ‘The Shape of Jazz to Come’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique musical heritage.

It's been 6 years since the tragic loss of Ornette Coleman and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Ornette Coleman is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
