It has been exactly 9 long years since Richard Attenborough died in London on August 24, 2014 at the age of 90. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Attenborough, a cultural icon

Born Richard Samuel Attenborough in Cambridge on August 29, 1923, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in British history. Attenborough was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1963 he touched the hearts of millions as Sqn. Ldr. Roger Bartlett in ‘The Great Escape’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.

It's been 9 years since the tragic loss of Richard Attenborough and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Richard Attenborough is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
