Remembering Scott McKenzie, 11 Years Later

It has been exactly 11 long years since Scott McKenzie died in Los Angeles on August 18, 2012 at the age of 73. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed singers of his generation.

Today, fans of Scott McKenzie (San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair), ...) along with the rest of the music world have been remembering the iconic man he was.

McKenzie, a cultural icon

Born Philip Wallach Blondheim in Jacksonville on January 10, 1939, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. McKenzie was not just a great singer, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1967 he touched the hearts of millions with ‘San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique musical heritage.

It's been 11 years since the tragic loss of Scott McKenzie and his personality still resonate strongly within us all. Although Scott McKenzie is no longer physically here, his presence is more powerful than ever. He left a void that has yet to be filled.
