It has been exactly 12 long years since Scott McKenzie died in Los Angeles on August 18, 2012 at the age of 73. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed singers of his generation.

McKenzie, a cultural icon
Born Philip Wallach Blondheim in Jacksonville on January 10, 1939, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. McKenzie was not just a great singer, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.
