It has been exactly 44 long years since Steve McQueen died in Ciudad Juárez on November 7, 1980 at the age of 50. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

McQueen, a cultural icon

Born Terence Steven McQueen in Beech Grove on March 24, 1930, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. McQueen was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1968 he touched the hearts of millions as Lieutenant Frank Bullitt in ‘Bullitt’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
