It has been exactly 39 long years since Yul Brynner died in New York on October 10, 1985 at the age of 65. As a number of online tributes attest, he was one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation.

Brynner, a cultural icon

Born Yuliy Borisovich Briner in Vladivostok on July 11, 1920, his career spanned an arc over many different eras and tastes in American history. Brynner was not just a great actor, he was an icon, an all-around inspiration to everyone.

In 1960 he touched the hearts of millions as Chris Adams in ‘The Magnificent Seven’. His legacy continues to grow as new generations of fans are discovering his unique heritage.
